I paused for a while to mull over whether I should sell all my textbooks from the summer and the fall quarter, or I should keep any individual textbook. After pondering for 0.01 second, I decided to sell them all.

I paused for a while to mull over whether I should sell all my textbooks from the summer and the fall quarter, or I should keep any individual textbook. After pondering for 0.01 second, I decided to sell them all.

There are three ways to sell those used textbooks for cash: A) sell to Stanford Bookstore for cash right away; B) trade in on Amazon.com for Amazon gift card; C) Follow what I just did.

  1. Sell to Stanford Bookstore

  • search the ISBN

  • bring the books to Stanford Bookstore and get cash on the spot

  1. Trade in on Amazon.com

  • search the ISBN at this Amazon's Trade-in Store

  • follow the website's instructions, print out the shipping label, and ship out the books by the required date

  • receive an Amazon gift card

  1. Arbitrage between Stanford Bookstore and Amazon

  • Stanford Bookstore offers cash right away, but mostly at discounted prices. For some books Amazon offers substantially higher prices (such as Microeconomics and Financial Accounting), but you get an Amazon gift card instead of cash, and Amazon may impose more strict conditions on the books. You just have to strike a balance.
